Queanbeyan Swap Meet 2014 - General Motors and Holden's

The Queanbeyan Swap Meet is held in conjunction with two car shows - the Ford, GM, Chrysler Day and the American Car Day. This post is mainly about the Holden's that were on display on the Saturday. I will post about GM cars that appeared on the Sunday, in the near future. The focus of this post is mainly on Aussie GM cars.

This is a postcard from the John Sands company, dated from the early 70's based on the cars featured. The photo was taken from the corner of Northbourne Avenue and London Circuit, facing east.

The cars! From left to right - EH wagon, Chrysler Charger, HQ Holden wagon, BMC Mini, BMC Mini, a Volvo (I reckon) HT Holden and an FB Holden. In the background is a bus that I cant quite identify.

Summernats 2013 - Dreams smashed in seconds

Updated with new photo and more info.

You have a dream, of a unique car you can work on and make something special, that others will admire. You spend over five years achieving that dream, then you are involved in a five car traffic incident - and your dream becomes a write-off. I just hope no one was seriously injured.

Update: I have been told that a car braked in front of the Commodore, he braked in time and missed colliding with the car that braked suddenly. The Territory driver did not. Even worse, the Territory had a ride on mower in a trailer, and that left the trailer and entered the back of the Territory. This entire mass collided with the Commodore, pushing it into the car in front.

Is there any good news? Yes - two passengers had been in the back of the Commodore, they had exited the car only a few minutes before the collision.

Pre-Summernats car preening

I decided to install cruise control on my V8 XF Panel van and dropped into the auto sparkie. As they say timing is everything. It was around 4ish on a Friday afternoon, and his shop is right next to a workshop that specialises in Falcons and American V8's. Andrew the auto sparkie had been working on the EJ Holden. Obviously people are getting cars ready for Summernats!

Not a bad lineup for a suburban workshop! I think I will cruise by every Friday arvo and see what else turns up!

Summernats 2012 - Utes

Utes are as Australian as Vegemite, that is they are an Australian invention owned by American corporations... Summernats is a great venue to observe the ute at work and play. Many are entered as show cars and make their way down the burnout track, but most are used to haul the show cars to EPIC and then used as cruisers. It's a great way to circle all day with your mates in the back.

For this photoessay, I've put the US utes at the beginning then the Holdens then the Fords. I know that one tonners and US pickups are mixed in here, but overall - this is a nice look at the Aussie ute.
